A rumored modification for the iPhone 17 may not actually happen. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated today that the size of the Dynamic Island across the iPhone 17 series will remain “largely unchanged” from the previous iPhone 16 models.
On multiple occasions, analyst Jeff Pu mentioned that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would feature a significantly smaller Dynamic Island, thanks to a new technology called “metalens.” This change was expected to affect the proximity sensor within the Dynamic Island and enable Apple to substantially minimize the Face ID sensor size.
However, Kuo disagrees. In a brief social media update today, Kuo remarked: “I anticipate that the size of the Dynamic Island will remain largely unchanged across the iPhone 17 series in the second half of 2025.”
Kuo did not elaborate on this assertion. The term “largely unchanged” suggests a degree of uncertainty as well. It’s conceivable that the iPhone 17 Pro Max—or other models in the iPhone 17 lineup—might exhibit a slightly smaller Dynamic Island, but the change may not be as prominent as earlier reports had indicated.
Apple aims to integrate the iPhone’s front camera and Face ID components beneath the display eventually, creating a completely edge-to-edge screen. However, achieving this goal is still a few years away.
The iPhone 17 series is anticipated to be unveiled this September, and more rumors are likely to surface as the official launch approaches.
