This year, Apple significantly enhanced the iPad Pro lineup with the introduction of the M4 chip, an integrated OLED display, a nano-texture finish, and more. However, plans for the next version are already underway, and we have some insights into its anticipated release timeline.
M5 iPad Pro to Maintain Apple’s 18-Month Refresh Schedule
Kuo stated on Medium:
The M5 processor-equipped iPad Pro is slated to begin mass production in the second half of 2025. The business dynamics for Apple during this period are expected to receive a substantial boost from the launch of new products.
This information was shared in the context of BYD Electronic, which is currently Apple’s assembly partner for iPads (and soon for the HomePad as well, according to the article).
The inclusion of the M5 chip isn’t surprising, given that the existing iPad Pro models are powered by the M4. However, it’s reassuring to have that detail confirmed.
Additionally, the projected timeline for the iPad Pro aligns with expectations.
Traditionally, Apple has refreshed its iPad Pro lineup approximately every 18 months, although some intervals have been longer. Since the current models debuted in May 2024, a launch of the M5 variants in fall 2025 is consistent with this typical schedule.
At this point, no other specific features of the M5 iPad Pro have been disclosed. Considering the substantial upgrades made with the M4 models this year, it’s likely that the changes introduced in 2025 will be more minor.
Apple’s Launch Plans for Fall 2025
While things could change, Kuo’s mass production timeline for the latter half of 2025 appears to coincide well with the anticipated release of the first M5 Macs as well.
If Apple continues with its recent launch patterns, we can expect new iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods models to debut at a September event, followed by the M5 iPad Pro and Macs in October or November.
Although we’re not yet in 2025, the details of Apple’s major fall lineup are beginning to emerge.
