UnitedHealthcare has committed to pay $3.49 million following a class action lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleged that the health care provider violated the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

It was claimed that UnitedHealthcare made calls to consumers regarding its Optum HouseCalls program that did not comply with TCPA regulations.

The calls utilized an automated or prerecorded voice to redirect customers to a number unrelated to any UnitedHealthcare member or planholder.

The calls occurred between October 12, 2019, and February 10, 2025.

The lawsuit asserts that UnitedHealthcare did not obtain consent from the consumers it contacted, constituting a violation of the TCPA.

The plaintiffs allege that they received calls concerning the Optum HouseCalls program despite not being members of UnitedHealthcare.

Optum, a division of UnitedHealth Group, offers health services, including the HouseCalls program.

This program arranges for healthcare professionals to conduct annual wellness checks at a member’s home.

While UnitedHealthcare did not admit liability, it has agreed to pay the settlement to resolve the lawsuit.

Those filing false claims may face significant consequences.
