If one hasn’t received their third stimulus check payment or has received a partial sum and are entitled for more money, the IRS will be giving you yet another chance- but time does seem to be running out. Back in January, the IRS had announced that all of the third stimulus payments had been issued. But they further claimed that some of the taxpayers could still claim payments on their tax return for 2021. The deadline to file the taxes for 2021 was 18th April. As it has been well-documented, more than 175 million third stimulus payments- which had a total amount of $400 billion, were issued in March 2021- as a part of the American Rescue Plan Act.
Claim Your Stimulus Check Payment Before It Expires
In order to claim any of the remaining payment, one would have to request any missing third stimulus check payments on the tax return for 2021 by claiming the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit. This is going to be the case if one received a partial amount or hadn’t qualified for the third stimulus payment. Families that have added dependents will also be able to claim this credit. Along with that, a few lingering taxpayers who filed using ITINs might not have received payments for their eligible dependents who had Social Security numbers.
In order to receive the stimulus check payments, one has to complete the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit worksheet and then submit it along with the tax return for 2021. If one uses a tax software program, it should guide one through the process. One also has to keep in mind that the IRS has predicted a slow and frustrating tax season this year- so one needs to file for their return as early as possible. Before one completes their worksheet, they would also have to note down the amount of any third stimulus payments that they received, their spouse, or any of the dependents.
