Lizzo is proud of herself! The 34-year-old Grammy winner gave herself little love via a sincere video posted on Instagram on Saturday. In the footage, Lizzo says that while she was taking a bath and doing her post-bath skin routine she suddenly realized that she was amazing, adding that she set the bars for beauty and asked the industry to catch up to her.
Lizzo Speaks On The Struggles Of Body Image And Social Media’s Role In It
Lizzo has a history of fighting for self-image and has eventually been considered to criticize the expectations of beauty that are put on females and creatives.
She posted an Instagram video in January frankly putting the caption that perhaps people would be more careful with what they utter on social platforms if they had to make a payment for every time they criticized someone. She also made a statement on the absurdity of the way people on social media comment on someone’s body and what they choose to do with it, implying the criticisms surrounding one’s body image and how comments on social media affect that.
Adding that artists or celebrities are there not to be judged for their bodies but to create art or simply do their work and all the judgment that they have to endure makes no sense because the body was a work of art and it does not need to fit into some silly standards. Similar actions have lately been taken by other well-known musicians. Ariana Grande, for example, uploaded a TikTok video the previous week to discuss her mental well-being and address recent remarks about her physique in an exclusive confessional video.
In the video Ariana Grande poems up about how there are several methods to make one “more beautiful” and that she for a very long had attempted to fit into the standards set by social media which has only made her health worse. She further added something which circles back to Lizzo’s beauty concept, that everyone’s notion of health as well as beauty is different, and doing what works for you is the best.
