A standout feature of the Vision Pro is the ability to experience Apple Immersive Video. Although the rollout of Immersive Video content has been slower than many anticipated, this could change in 2025, thanks to significant updates from Blackmagic.
Blackmagic Unveils Major Hardware and Software Developments for Apple Immersive Video
Today, Blackmagic has announced the commencement of pre-orders for the first camera system specifically designed for capturing Apple Immersive Video.
Pre-orders are currently open, and shipments are expected in ‘late Q1 2025.’
The Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera system comes with a price tag of $29,995. Here are the details of what it offers.
As stated in the press release:
The Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive features a fixed, custom lens system perfectly integrated into the body, crafted specifically for capturing Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. The sensor offers a stunning resolution of 8160 x 7200 per eye, with pixel-level synchronization and an impressive 16 stops of dynamic range, enabling cinematographers to record 90fps 3D immersive cinema content in a single file. This custom lens system is tailored for URSA Cine’s large format image sensor, ensuring precise positional data is collected and stored during manufacturing. This immersive lens projection information — calibrated and stored in-device — is then carried through to post-production in the Blackmagic RAW file itself.
Good news also awaits DaVinci Resolve users. The well-known software will receive an update in early 2025 to support editing Immersive Video and more.
