Americans facing the scorching rate of inflation had to confront the surging gas prices as they hit a record high. It has affected a population that has just started to recover from the crippling effect of the pandemic. Now several Democratic lawmakers have said that the federal administration should offer rebate checks or stimulus checks to control the spiraling prices of fuel.

Under the proposed gas stimulus check, families having two children might get a stimulus check of $300 a month till gas prices stay above $4 to the gallon. This bill was proposed by Representatives John Larson, Lauren Underwood, and Mike Thompson, all Democrats.

Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, on Wednesday proposed a direct stimulus check of $400 for each vehicle to residents of California. The proposal is waiting for the approval of lawmakers in the state and could come in as early as July. Californian drivers pay the highest in America with the average rate as high as $5.87 to the gallon.

Stimulus Check A Necessity As Consumers Face A $2,000 Increase Per Month

American face an annual $2,000 increase just by calculating the increased gas bills. And added to that is an increase of $1,000 in grocery bills, as inflation touches an all-time high since 1982.

Thompson said that the stimulus checks to offset the increase in gas prices could help middle-class citizens with monthly checks that would ease their financial burden during this worldwide crisis that is threatening to spiral out of control into a full-blown war.

If the federal gas stimulus check goes through, millions would be eligible for the support based on the current prices which are as high as $4.24 a gallon on average. The strain is already telling on most Americans, though it remains unclear if any of the proposals will go through.

The Gas Rebate Act, proposed by the three lawmakers would allow a monthly rebate on energy bills of $100 for each citizen. The refund would be activated every time the gas prices crossed $4 a gallon in any given month. As per the bill, single and joint taxpayers will get a stimulus check of $100 each, plus another $100 to each dependent.
