WASHINGTON – A man from D.C. is facing legal action after he reportedly kicked a two-year-old child, who was a stranger, down an escalator at a Metro station in the District.

Here’s what we know:
William Woodson, aged 26, was indicted on Wednesday by a grand jury at D.C. Superior Court on three felony charges, which include first-degree child cruelty and assault.
On July 24, 2023, at approximately 11:20 a.m., the boy’s mother was descending the escalator at the Mount Vernon Square Metro station with her toddler when Woodson allegedly kicked the child from behind, resulting in his fall. The child suffered serious injuries to his head and face due to the incident.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for D.C. stated that the child’s mother pursued Woodson and was able to identify him to the authorities.
Toddler hospitalized following escalator incident
The child was found to be bleeding from the head and had lost consciousness when he was rushed to Children’s Hospital. He remained hospitalized for around twelve hours and was later diagnosed with a mild concussion before being released to his mother.
The incident is currently under investigation by both the Metropolitan Police Department and the Metropolitan Transit Police Department.
