Exciting news for Messenger users today! Meta has rolled out a new update that introduces voicemail for phone and video calls, similar to what FaceTime offers. Additionally, the Facebook calling service is now featuring AI-generated video backgrounds and Siri integration.
After Apple launched the highly anticipated FaceTime video message feature last year, Meta has stepped up with Messenger’s new capabilities. Voicemail for both missed audio and video calls is a fresh addition for users.
However, one feature yet to be implemented in both FaceTime and Messenger is the option to create custom answering machine-style messages for when you’re not available. Other enhancements include voice isolation and background noise cancellation.
Messenger’s integration with Siri is also a significant highlight. Meta elaborates:
When your hands aren’t free or your phone isn’t in reach, you can ask Siri to assist with making calls and sending messages from anywhere. Just say something like: “Hey Siri, send a message to Cassandra on Messenger” and dictate your message.
This feature is fantastic for those who frequently use Messenger for calls.
Of course, no update would be complete without a touch of AI, right? Meta is enabling AI-generated backgrounds that users can apply during video calls. While FaceTime has recently introduced custom backgrounds, we’ll have to wait for the integration of Apple Intelligence and Image Playground.
