Meta has announced the launch of AI-powered personal assistants across its popular messaging platforms, Messenger and WhatsApp. The assistants, branded as “Meta M,” are designed to enhance user experiences by providing personalized suggestions, facilitating task management, and answering queries.
The rollout will begin in select regions starting January 2024, with global availability expected by mid-year. The assistants will leverage Meta’s Llama 3 AI model, ensuring advanced natural language understanding and contextual responses. Users will also have the ability to customize the assistant’s personality and focus areas, making it adaptable to individual needs.
Transforming Communication with AI
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said during the announcement, “We’re excited to bring the power of AI directly to people’s conversations. Whether you need help planning an event, organizing your day, or simply finding the perfect GIF, Meta M is here to assist.”
The AI assistants will also integrate seamlessly with other Meta platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook, allowing users to transition smoothly between applications. Privacy advocates, however, have raised concerns about the data used to train the AI. Meta has assured that conversations will remain encrypted and that users will have control over the information shared with the assistant.
This development positions Meta as a strong competitor to similar offerings from Google, Amazon, and Apple, as the race to dominate AI-powered virtual assistance intensifies.
