Namecheap is a web hosting firm that recently caught the misuse of their 3rd party services. This misuse was in the form of sending unauthorized emails that were mailed directly to MetaMask users.

MetaMask is one of the most popular cryptocurrency wallet providers. Lately, they issued a warning to their investors against the phishing attempts that are going on. Scammers have been trying to contact customers of MetaMask through the upstream system of the 3rd party Namecheap. It has come to their notice that on the 12th of February evening, Namecheap saw their 3rd party services being misused for the purpose of sending unauthorized emails to the users of MetaMask. Namecheap has even described this phishing incident as a gateway issue of emails.

Phishing Alert From MetaMask

MetaMask has sent a proactive alert to their million followers mentioning that they will never gather KYC (Know Your Customer) details and other information through emails. As a result, any user getting such an email should be alert and not respond to them.

Such phishing emails were sent by this Namecheap hacker. The email also contained one link that created a duplicate MetaMask website. Then the users were requested for a private recovery phrase asking them to maintain their wallet securely

Hacker Uses Smart Methods

This wallet shared by the hacker through email also advised the users to never share any seed phrases. The reason is seed phrases are able to give full control of the funds of the investors to any hacker.

Namecheap has confirmed that their services remain safe and none of the customer data has been breached or leaked after this incident. They have also restored their delivery mail and the entire communication will be sent from the official sources. Nonetheless, the hacker remains unidentified and unsolicited emails are still being investigated.
