In the wake of the success of Severance, Apple TV+ has been introducing a series of captivating new shows. Among them is Murderbot, an upcoming sci-fi dark comedy that promises to be among the best, especially considering its newly unveiled trailer.

The show is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, May 16, debuting with its first two episodes, followed by new episodes released weekly until July 11.

Adapted from Martha Wells’ acclaimed Hugo and Nebula Award-winning series “The Murderbot Diaries,” “Murderbot” is a sci-fi thriller/comedy centered on a self-hacking security construct. It is both frightened and fascinated by human emotions while trying to protect its vulnerable clients. Portrayed by Skarsgård, Murderbot struggles to conceal its free will while tackling a perilous mission, all while longing for solitude to indulge in futuristic soap operas and ponder its existence.

High anticipation for a long run of Murderbot on Apple TV+
This inaugural season of Murderbot is entirely based on the first book in Martha Wells’ series, All Systems Red, which is available for purchase on Apple Books.
Should the show gain traction, there are numerous other books that could provide material for additional seasons.
Having read the first Murderbot Diaries novel, I was initially uncertain about its potential adaptation to television—primarily due to the tonal and genre shifts, as well as the series’ first-person perspective.
However, judging by this two-minute preview, it seems that Apple has crafted a compelling adaptation. I’m looking forward to next month’s premiere.
