Netflix CEO to Make Cameo in Upcoming Apple TV+ Comedy Series

The forthcoming Seth Rogen comedy series, The Studio, will include a cameo by Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos. Although the series is produced for Apple TV+, Rogen shared his conversation with Vanity Fair, revealing that Sarandos agreed to participate in a project from a rival streaming service as a personal favor. Rogen noted that while he thought it was a long shot, it’s often said that you miss 100% of the chances you don’t take.

The Studio is a ten-episode satirical comedy exploring the inner workings of a movie studio striving to remain relevant. Rogen stars as the newly appointed studio head, Matt Remick.

Rogen explained that he and Sarandos have known each other for years, dating back to the time when Netflix was primarily a DVD rental service. In coordinating Sarandos’ cameo, Rogen admitted he didn’t seek permission from Apple:

“Part of it required not getting permission. I just emailed him directly. I didn’t check with our Apple partners beforehand,” Rogen chuckled. (It seems Apple had enough confidence to not see this as an issue.) “I sent him the script and mentioned, ‘We have this joke where you impart this wisdom that resonates with my character arc.’ He was quick to respond, saying, ‘Yes, if I can fit this into my schedule, I’d love to do it.’”

The narrative follows a self-absorbed executive grappling with the declining significance of Hollywood movies in contemporary culture, acting as a meta-commentary on reality. Consequently, The Studio will include multiple guest appearances from notable Hollywood figures, such as legendary director Martin Scorsese, Zack Snyder, Bryan Cranston (from Breaking Bad), Adam Scott (from Severance), and several others.

The main cast features Rogen, Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz, and Chase Sui Wonders. This marks Rogen’s second project with Apple TV+, following the success of the 2023 comedy Platonic, which he co-starred in with Rose Byrne and has already been renewed for a second season.

The series is set to premiere exclusively on the Apple TV+ streaming service on March 28, 2025, with the first two episodes available. The rest of the season will be released weekly until May 23.
