Apple refreshed its Apple TV 4K streaming device in late 2022. So, when can we expect the next version? A recent report highlights the likely launch window for the new Apple TV 4K model.
Next-generation Apple TV 4K set to debut ‘late’ in 2025
Over the weekend, Mark Gurman shared insights in his latest Power On newsletter.
In this newsletter, he reveals Apple’s ambitious roadmap for 2025, which includes the introduction of a new Apple TV 4K.
Notably, Gurman offers more precise details than before regarding the new model’s anticipated timeline.
The upcoming Apple TV 4K is “scheduled for release towards the end of the year.”
Apple typically has several key product launches in the fall:
- September is reserved for new iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods releases.
- Then in October, the focus shifts to Mac, and occasionally iPad and other miscellaneous gadgets.
In 2024, Apple deviated from its traditional event style for Mac launches, revealing its first M4 Macs over the course of three days.
The new Macs were then delivered to customers in early November.
Based on Gurman’s report, it appears that the new Apple TV 4K should make its appearance in October or November.
While October may be the time for the announcement, there’s always a chance that it will actually be available in November, similar to the new Macs.
This release would coincide almost exactly three years after the last update to the Apple TV line.
What to expect from the new Apple TV 4K
Currently, little is known regarding the new capabilities Apple intends to incorporate in the next-generation Apple TV 4K.
However, it is anticipated to feature a new Wi-Fi modem designed by Apple, which could enhance connectivity within its expanding Home device network.
In addition, support for specific Apple Intelligence functionalities is expected.
Although many current AI features may not align well with tvOS, a more advanced Siri version should at least be part of the package.
To facilitate AI features, the Apple TV 4K will likely require a more powerful chip, like the A17 Pro or A18, along with increased RAM.
Outside of these modifications, many details regarding the update remain uncertain.
