New Apple Watch SE Expected to Launch Later This Year with Updated Design and Enhanced Health Features

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple is set to unveil a new Apple Watch SE later this year, alongside updates to the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3. According to current rumors, it appears that Apple Watch will see significant developments this year.

Revamped Apple Watch SE

Details on the new Apple Watch SE are sparse, but Gurman indicates it will feature a fresh design.

The original Apple Watch SE was launched in 2020, utilizing the design of the 2018 Apple Watch Series 4. It’s possible that this new look will more closely resemble the Apple Watch Series 7, which debuted in 2021, or it could be an entirely new design.

Previously, Gurman suggested that Apple might consider a plastic casing for the Apple Watch SE, so this could be the direction they are taking. If you’re considering purchasing an Apple Watch SE, it might be wise to wait for this updated version, which is expected to arrive this year. Should a plastic model be introduced, we might also see a variety of vibrant colors offered.

Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3

As for the premium Apple Watch variants, significant design changes are unlikely. Gurman mentions that they will likely retain a similar form factor. However, there are still exciting features to anticipate.

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is expected to include satellite connectivity and 5G RedCap, greatly enhancing connectivity options for users. Additionally, both the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 are likely to introduce high blood pressure monitoring later this year. Unlike traditional blood pressure measurements, these readings will alert users to potential hypertension rather than provide specific numerical values:

The blood pressure feature…is intended to function like Apple’s sleep apnea detection. It won’t deliver precise readings such as diastolic or systolic levels, but will notify users if they may be experiencing hypertension.

Blood pressure monitoring was initially slated for the Apple Watch Series 10, but it was postponed due to the watch’s new, slimmer design. This year, however, Apple seems poised to roll it out.

Gurman also notes that Apple is developing a new AI coaching service and an updated health app, although the release timeline remains uncertain. These developments are expected to coincide with the launch of AirPods featuring heart rate monitoring.

Conclusion

If these rumors hold true, Apple seems set to refresh all existing Apple Watch models simultaneously—something the company hasn’t done since 2022 when it rolled out the Apple Watch SE 2, Apple Watch Series 8, and the original Apple Watch Ultra.

While we anticipated the Ultra 3 in 2024, so far we have only seen the introduction of a new black titanium variant of the Ultra 2, and the new Apple Watch SE has yet to be made available. Nevertheless, we hope for better news this year.
