New Magic Keyboard for iPad Air Debuts with Price Reduction and Enhanced Features

Apple has just unveiled the latest M3 iPad Air and iPad 11, alongside a new accessory. The Magic Keyboard for the iPad Air has been updated with some enhancements inspired by the M4 iPad Pro’s Magic Keyboard. Here are the highlights.

New Magic Keyboard for iPad Air Mimics M4 iPad Pro’s Features

According to Apple’s press release:

The reimagined Magic Keyboard for iPad Air enhances user capabilities at a more appealing price. The expanded built-in trackpad increases accuracy for focused tasks, and the addition of a 14-key function row allows straightforward access to controls like screen brightness and volume. The upgraded Magic Keyboard connects magnetically, utilizing the Smart Connector for immediate power and data transfer without requiring Bluetooth. Furthermore, a machined aluminum hinge now incorporates a USB-C port for charging. Pricing starts at just $269 for the 11-inch model and $319 for the 13-inch model, featuring the beloved floating design in white.

The updated Magic Keyboard for iPad Air incorporates key features from last year’s M4 iPad Pro Magic Keyboard, which I truly admire.

Similarities include:

  • A larger trackpad compared to earlier versions
  • A function row providing convenient shortcut access

However, one distinction is that the iPad Air version does not offer haptic feedback on the trackpad, and it lacks the aluminum palm rest found beside the trackpad on the Pro version.

Despite these differences, the Magic Keyboards for both iPad Air and iPad Pro are largely similar in design.

Both models are available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes. Although it would have been ideal to streamline the offerings with a single Magic Keyboard, the sleek design of the iPad Pro is likely why Apple continues to produce two models.

Pricing and Compatibility with Devices

One benefit of the iPad Air lacking a few features is its more budget-friendly price.

  • 11-inch: $269 (compared to $299 for the iPad Pro version)
  • 13-inch: $319 (as opposed to $349 for the iPad Pro version)

The new Magic Keyboard is compatible with the following models:

  • iPad Air 11-inch (M3)
  • iPad Air 11-inch (M2)
  • iPad Air (5th generation)
  • iPad Air (4th generation)
  • iPad Air 13-inch (M3)
  • iPad Air 13-inch (M2)

You can now purchase the new Magic Keyboard from the online Apple Store, with deliveries starting Wednesday, March 12.
