Nintendo Revives Animal Crossing on iPhone as a Paid Game Free from In-App Purchases

Nintendo has introduced a new mobile game today, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete. This title retains much of the charm of its predecessor while adding new features and, intriguingly, trying out a novel pricing strategy.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete is Now Available

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete adopts a business model that Nintendo hasn’t employed in recent times, and one that many games on the App Store have moved away from.

It’s available for a one-time upfront fee on the App Store. The current pricing is set at $9.99, which is a limited-time offer that will increase to $19.99 starting January 30.

Nintendo has experienced mixed reactions to previous games that were free to download but featured in-app purchases. Thus, it will be interesting to observe the reception of this latest Animal Crossing endeavor.

Here’s what you can anticipate from the app:

From Business Wire:

This new, one-time purchase app is filled with numerous items and events released in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp over the past seven years, alongside fresh content. Players can exchange Leaf Tokens for in-game items, design and collect personalized Camper Cards via QR Code®, explore the new Whistle Pass location, and partake in a variety of both new and returning seasonal events throughout the year.

Moreover, the new app introduces the ability to import Custom Designs! Players can create designs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch, then enter the Custom Design IDs in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete to integrate their creations into the app.

If you’ve enjoyed the previous iteration of Pocket Camp, you can transfer your save data by linking your Nintendo account, meaning you won’t have to start anew.

DMN’s Perspective

Many games on the App Store are often plagued with ads or designed to encourage in-app purchases. While Apple Arcade offers an alternative to such patterns, it’s refreshing to see a prominent title from Nintendo challenge the norm as well.

If you’re a fan of Animal Crossing, make sure to download the app before the introductory pricing ends on January 30. A price of $9.99 is quite a commitment for most users of the App Store.
