Stimulus Check

VERIFY was notified by an IRS official that no statute for a fourth stimulus check in 2023 had been authorized. The IRS and U.S. Department of Treasury websites, which offer instructions on how people may get the three earlier stimulus payments if they haven’t already, make no mention of a fourth payment.

Before Americans could get another stimulus check, legislation authorizing the payment would need to be approved by Congress and signed into law by Vice President Biden. However, it hasn’t happened.

IRS Will Not Send Another Stimulus Check In 2023

At this time, there are no plans for additional government stimulus checks in 2023, according to Mark Steber, chief tax information officer at Jackson Hewitt. The law that was at the time adopted by Congress and signed by the president included the three previous stimulus payments. The initial $1,200 check was part of the CARES Act, which was approved in March 2020. A second check for $600 was part of a spending plan approved in December 2020.

The third check for $1,400 was included in the American Rescue Plan, which was passed in March 2021. The Inflation Reduction Act, which Congress enacted in August 2022, and the federal government’s 2023 omnibus budget plan do not include Economic Impact Payments and stimulus cheques. If a person was qualified for one of the original three stimulus payments but hasn’t yet received any of them, they may still submit a claim. You have three years to submit a claim for your stimulus funds, according to an IRS representative.

To be qualified for compensation for a lost stimulus check, you must file a tax return for either 2020 or 2021, or both, and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
