One Compelling M4 MacBook Air Feature That Might Entice You to Upgrade from M3

Apple is gearing up to unveil the M4 MacBook Air in the near future, likely to be its first major release of the year. The new model will introduce a feature that may encourage M2 and M3 users to consider an upgrade: enhanced support for external displays.

External display restrictions have long troubled MacBook Air users

Traditionally, the MacBook Air hasn’t excelled in external display connectivity.

The M1 and M2 versions of the MacBook Air allowed users to connect only one external monitor, which has been a significant limitation for many.

After years of anticipation for an upgrade, the M3 MacBook Air finally delivered a solution.

The M3 model enabled the connection of two external displays, but it came with a stipulation: the MacBook Air’s lid had to remain closed.

So, while the M3 version marked a step forward, users still faced the ultimate constraint of two screens.

Now, however, the upcoming M4 MacBook Air promises to change this limitation.

M4 MacBook Air will allow two monitors with the lid open

The new MacBook Air will feature the same M4 chip currently found in the base MacBook Pro. Just as the M3 MacBook Pro hinted at expanded display capacities for the M3 Air, the pattern is repeating.

The M4 MacBook Air is anticipated to support up to three displays overall: two external monitors alongside the internal display with the lid open.

This matches the specifications of the M4 MacBook Pro, ensuring similar compatibility with the M4 Air.

This improvement may provide sufficient reason for some users to upgrade.

For those utilizing last year’s M3 Air, or certainly older M2 or M1 models, the capability to connect two external monitors while keeping the lid open is a considerable advantage.

It allows the use of the built-in keyboard and trackpad of the MacBook Air without needing external accessories, thereby enhancing the total screen space available.

Do you think the external display support of the M4 MacBook Air is a compelling reason to upgrade? Share your thoughts in the comments.
