OpenSea, a platform for Nonfungible tokens (NFT), claims that it has no information regarding any proof that any former employees were involved in 2021’s infamous rug pull of AnubisDAO. Recently, social media has seen fresh accusations surface regarding it. In an X thread, (previously called Twitter), on October 6th, NFT Ethics, an anonymous account, tagged OpenSea. In their post, they requested the platform to give a comment on accusations against Kevin Pawlak, the former ventures head.

OpenSea Denies Any Awareness

The accusations claim that Pawlak is associated with “0xSisyphus”, a pseudonymous identity that had been involved in multiple business dealings of the dubious kind. Both Lookonchain, an account for blockchain analytics, and NFT Ethics claimed that 0xSisyphus, and subsequently Pawlak, had a significant hand in creating hype around the AnubisDAO project to lure in investors. Shortly afterward, the newly raised funds were transferred to multiple external wallets.

NFT Ethics’ thread tried to explain that the role played by Pawlak in the rug pull of AnubisDAO was premeditated. It claimed that the other developers were also in on the scam. The proceeds were then laundered through PEPE (or, Pepe, a memecoin). However, a spokesperson for OpenSea said that the platform had no information about Pawlak’s involvement in any activities of this kind. They further noted that during Pawlak’s tenure at the company, his scope was limited.

The representative also added that the platform has “no connection to, or information about, the projects in question” as the incident occurred before Pawlak was employed at OpenSea. ZachXBT, a sleuth account for blockchain, also apparently downplayed the accusations. They referred to the thread as being “the most mid-curve” event he has ever read. He explained that the thread’s majority bases multiple assumptions on unrelated events that seemingly have no factual backing.
