The widely-used podcast application Overcast has received a substantial update today, introducing a new feature for tracking listening statistics. Users can now view the podcasts they’ve listened to the most over the past two years.
Additionally, the latest Overcast update brings a highly practical 48-hour history and undo function to assist users who accidentally skip a podcast.
This new 48-hour listening history feature enhances the undo seek capability that Overcast launched earlier this year.
- 48-hour History and Undo: Did you accidentally skip too far, let your device play overnight, or remove the wrong episode, podcast, or playlist? You can simply undo it!
The undo seek feature has become one of my favorite improvements from Overcast’s significant update in July, so I’m excited to see this feature evolve even further.
Additionally, the new Listening Stats function provides users with a fantastic means of reviewing their podcast consumption on a daily, monthly, or yearly scale.
- Listening Stats: Discover your top podcasts by year, month, or day, with data available dating back to the beginning of 2023! Users can also create images of their favorite podcasts to share on social media.
The latest 48-hour history and listening stats features are now accessible for Overcast Premium users. In conjunction with this update, Overcast Premium will see a price increase from $9.99 per year to $14.99 per year.
This marks the first price adjustment in Overcast’s eight-year journey. The new pricing will apply to new subscribers starting November 21, and to existing subscribers upon their renewal.
Overcast developer Marco Arment commented:
“My business model is to provide a huge surplus of value to you over time, far greater than what I charge, so when I eventually ask for more, it’s a no-brainer. I hope I’ve achieved that for you.”
Overcast has been a staple on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac for years, and I’ve always regarded the $9.99 annual fee as too generous. I’m more than willing to pay an increased amount, particularly given the rapid addition of new features throughout this year.
