Even though the White House was not forthcoming about the chances of a 4th monthly stimulus check worth $2,000 for adults, the online petition on change.org started by a restaurant owner has already crossed $2.5 million signatures. The petition also called for a $1,000 per month check for children till the economic condition improves.
Stephanie Bonin launched the petition in 2020. Her restaurant in Denver was struggling like most other small businesses and she shared her story and how she needed immediate help for herself and the people working for her.
A Stimulus Check Worth $2,000 Every Month
Stephanie Bonin started her petition urging the government to allocate monthly stimulus checks of $2,000 for adults, and $1,000 for children. Bonin wants the monthly stimulus checks to continue till the pandemic runs its course and the economic situation improves. Businesses need to be up and running before the government should consider stopping the stimulus checks.
Bonin recently updated her petition in which she urged Congress to act upon the petition and release more money. She said that this should continue until the nation stabilizes. The third round was not enough to help people through the pandemic and its aftereffects.
She said that the nation was struggling and the retrieval hasn’t done much for many Americans. Unemployment rates are still at a high of 20% for low-income groups and were reeling under heavy debts.
She believes that stimulus checks should be more targeted and reach the right people, especially those who are truly struggling. The support for her petition keeps growing and 500,000 people have given their approval since May.
Appeal from a significant number of Democratic lawmakers has also evoked little response from President Biden, who continues to be preoccupied with the Infrastructure bill and the Families act.
The letter supported the fourth round of stimulus checks. The payment mentioned that people needed to be certain about certain things at this moment of crisis, like being able to provide food for the family, or having a place to live in.
Jen Psaki, Press Secretary at the White House has mentioned that the President is willing to listen to every idea that would help Americans at this stage. But she also said that any more direct stimulus payments at this stage would not be feasible, especially since the President was preoccupied with getting the infrastructure bill through.
