Philips Hue Introduces AI-Generated Lighting Scenes in Official App

While there are numerous third-party applications capable of creating automated lighting scenes with Philips Hue products, it has been officially confirmed today that the company will soon introduce this feature within its own app.

Users will have the option to request AI-generated lighting scenes through voice commands or text input, with the illustrative example “Provide a scene for a garden party.” …

Hueblog reported back in October of last year that this feature was undergoing testing.

Artificial intelligence has become a fundamental component of modern technology, influencing numerous areas. Might we soon see its integration in Philips Hue products? This certainly seems possible, at least in part.

For a while, Philips Hue has been experimenting with an AI Playground designed to generate appropriate lighting scenes from simple text commands. Phrases like “Create a scene for a children’s birthday party” or “Create a scene for a cozy breakfast” should yield fitting light settings.

When this is released in the Hue app – the exact date remains unknown – it will likely start with limited capabilities. From what I gather, the AI function will initially not be able to generate entirely new scenes but will suggest suitable existing ones. Users can input queries such as ‘What is the best scene for a winter evening’ to obtain relevant recommendations.

The Verge today stated that the company has confirmed a launch within this quarter.

Philips Hue users will soon be able to create AI-enhanced lighting scenes, as announced by the company on Tuesday.

The new generative AI lighting assistant from Philips Hue allows users to craft customized lighting scenes based on occasions, moods, or styles. They can achieve this by entering commands such as “Provide a scene for a garden party” into the Hue app, or by using voice instructions. The assistant will then either recommend scenes from the existing Philips Hue library or generate a new one. Alongside scene creation, the AI assistant can adjust settings of current lights, including brightness and color.

The announcement was briefly included in a press release today, although it lacked further specifics.

Philips Hue introduces its inaugural generative AI assistant within the Hue app, offering personalized lighting scenes tailored to mood, occasion, or style. Set to launch in 2025, the assistant enables users to input or vocalize commands to establish the ideal ambiance, with feedback mechanisms for ongoing enhancement.

This feature will be compatible with all Philips Hue lighting products.
