Potential Price Increases for These Apple Products Due to Trump’s 125% Tariff on China

Today, President Trump announced a 90-day pause on tariffs for most nations, but this exemption does not extend to China. In fact, tariffs on China have surged from 104% to 125%, effective immediately.

To recap the timeline, the China tariff began at 20%, quickly escalated to 54%, then to 104%, and now reaches an alarming 125%.

Consequences of Trump’s Tariff on China

While China is a significant part of Apple’s supply chain, it is not the sole contributor; other essential countries include Vietnam, India, and more. Nevertheless, China remains the largest supplier.

These figures suggest one clear action: if you’re considering purchasing a new Apple product or an upgrade, now is the time to act. It’s unlikely Apple can sustain selling products imported from China under a 125% tariff without passing on increased costs to consumers.

For instance, the production cost of an iPhone 16 Pro 256GB is estimated at $580, which includes components, testing, and assembly. With the implementation of a 125% tariff, the projected cost upon arrival in the U.S. (excluding any Apple profit margin) would hover around $1305. Even if Apple aims for minimal profit and sells the device for $1399, that’s still a $300 increase from the current selling price of the iPhone 16 Pro 256GB.

Apple does manufacture a portion of its iPhones in India, so there’s a possibility the company may make adjustments to mitigate the impact as much as they can. The calculations are meant to underscore the potential severity of these tariffs.

If you’re in immediate need of a new Apple product, I’d advise against waiting to see what the price changes might be. However, if it’s not urgent, there’s no need to panic buy—this advice is mainly for those who require a product soon.
