iPhones Made in India
While the majority of global iPhone production occurs in China, Apple has been working towards establishing India as its second-largest manufacturing hub for several years.
Apple has gradually expanded production from solely the iPhone SE to include the latest flagship models. Previous reports indicated that Apple aims to manufacture 25% of its iPhones in India by 2027.
The Indian government has been promoting this increase through a series of tax incentives on imported components, known as the Made in India initiative, while the Chinese government is accused of intentionally undermining these efforts.
Foxconn’s Expansion of iPhone Production in India
According to the Economic Times of India, Foxconn has agreed to Apple’s request to significantly increase iPhone production in the country by constructing a new facility in Bengaluru.
Foxconn aims to produce 25-30 million iPhones at its Indian facilities this year, which is more than double its output from the previous year […] said sources familiar with the situation.
“Last year, the company assembled around 12 million iPhones in India,” disclosed one insider. “With the Bengaluru facility also rapidly progressing, they have set their ambitions considerably higher, aligning with Apple’s strategy to strengthen their footprint in India.”
Reports indicate that the assembler commenced limited trials around three or four months ago and is now focused on ensuring that quality standards are upheld when the facility operates at full capacity.
Analysts assert that this production estimate is in line with their projections and indicates that the Cupertino giant is on track to achieve its target of 25% of iPhone production in India by next year.
