In June, Apple launched a beta version of Apple Maps for the web, enabling users on platforms like Windows PCs to utilize its mapping service directly through a web browser. Initially, the beta was quite limited, but it is now receiving a significant new feature: Look Around.
Look Around Now Available on Apple Maps Web App
As highlighted by Chris Carley, Look Around is now accessible in the web version of Apple Maps. The Look Map website, which tracks the coverage of major mapping platforms, indicates that Apple integrated this feature around December 11.
For those who aren’t familiar, Look Around is Apple’s equivalent of Street View. Launched in 2019 with iOS 13, this feature allows users to explore their surroundings using 360-degree panoramic views. Users can access Look Around by tapping or clicking on the binoculars icon within Apple Maps, wherever it is available.
Currently, Look Around is available in select cities across the U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K., the European Union, and several other nations. A comprehensive list can be found on Apple’s website.
Apple has stated that Apple Maps on the web is still considered a “public beta.” This web application enables users to explore maps, search for businesses and points of interest, obtain directions, and view Guides. However, features like the transit map and 3D buildings remain unavailable, and there is no option to sign in with an Apple ID to access saved locations and custom Guides.
According to Apple, future updates will introduce additional features, platforms, and languages. You can experience Apple Maps on the web by visiting beta.maps.apple.com in Safari, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
