Apple Maps for the Web Exits Beta and Now Supports Mobile Devices

Last year, Apple unveiled a beta version of Apple Maps for the web, marking the first time users on other platforms could utilize the company’s mapping service. However, it was still labeled as “beta” — until now. With its exit from beta, the platform has now gained compatibility with mobile devices.

With this update, Apple Maps is available at maps.apple.com instead of the previous beta URL. The most notable addition is support for mobile platforms. Unlike before, when the web version was limited to desktop and tablet browsers, it now functions on both iPhone and Android devices.

This update may not significantly impact most iOS users; however, Android users can now opt for Apple Maps if they wish.

The web app allows users to navigate the map, search for businesses and points of interest, obtain directions, and view Guides. However, features such as the transit map and 3D buildings are still unavailable. Additionally, there’s no option to log in with an Apple Account to access saved locations and custom Guides.

A few months back, Apple enhanced the Maps web app by adding the Look Around feature, which enables users to explore their surroundings through 360-degree panoramic views. Where available, Look Around can be accessed by clicking the binoculars icon in Apple Maps.

Apple has indicated that it will continue to introduce new features and enhance support for more platforms in the Apple Maps web app.
