What This Means:

The current weather pattern indicates high pressure settled over Texas, combined with abundant sunshine. Emissions from vehicles and industries, as well as chemical solvents and gasoline vapors, react in the sunlight.

This reaction forms ozone in the troposphere, which is recognized as “unhealthy ozone.”

To help reduce ozone pollution and protect your health, consider the following tips:

  • Limit idling in your vehicle and carpool whenever possible.

  • If feasible, walk or bike to your destination.

  • Pack your lunch to reduce takeout trips.

  • If you have breathing issues such as asthma or COPD, consider exercising indoors or limiting outdoor activities.

An additional advisory for Thursday may be issued as our weather pattern is not expected to change in the short term forecast.

Increased levels of ground-level ozone are anticipated on both Wednesday and Thursday due to current weather conditions
