Rebel Wilson recalled at the Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that she didn’t get a very warm reception from Meghan Markle when Wilson first met her as the Duchess of Sussex.
The star of Pitch Perfect and other classics stated that the Duchess wasn’t as cool with the Australian star, nor was she warm while interacting with her. But Wilson also noted that Markle’s off-color behavior could also be a result of Sue Bownds, Wilson’s Australian mother, who kept asking personal questions about Meghan. Nevertheless, Wilson did ask her mom to stop asking her questions about her kids and other personal stuff. The star had met the Royal couple in Santa Barbara, California, and Prince Harry, by contrast, could not have been nicer.
Meghan Markle Wasn’t Impressed When She Met Rebel Wilson
When Andy Cohen asked if Rebel Wilson had ever known the royals before they met, the Australian actor stated that she hadn’t and that they had a mutual acquaintance. Rebel then further joked that maybe this was the reason why Meghan wasn’t so warm to her.
Wilson also mentioned that maybe Meghan must have wondered who the “annoying convicts” from Australia were referring to the history of Australia initially used as a dumping ground for English prisoners. Needless to say, this joke was made in good taste and wasn’t meant to offend any of the royal members. But she did reiterate that the 38-year-old prince was lovely.
Rebel Wilson’s comment about Meghan Markle did go viral on social media, with several followers putting up their own opinion about the matter. Some of them sided with Meghan and wondered why the English and the people of the Commonwealth were so interested in Meghan’s child. While others sided with Rebel and mentioned that Meghan was quite a narcissist and the entertainment industry was simply bringing it out for everyone to see.
