Report: iOS 19 Aims to Integrate ‘Current’ Apple Intelligence Features into New Applications

As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s forthcoming iOS 19 update will emphasize enhancing its existing Apple Intelligence features rather than rolling out entirely new ones.

Considering Apple’s delays in fulfilling their iOS 18 Siri commitments, this approach seems logical. The tech giant has allegedly postponed the introduction of a more interactive Siri in iOS 19, pushing that timeline to iOS 20.

Beyond Siri improvements, Gurman states that iOS 19 will not present any significant new AI features. Instead, we should expect to see enhancements of current functionalities, better integrated across the ecosystem:

The downside is that Apple is not expected to launch any revolutionary AI features at the upcoming WWDC. Instead, they are likely to share plans for expanding existing functionalities to more applications.

What this entails remains uncertain. It’s possible Apple might extend their summarization functionalities to additional applications or even introduce an API for developers. Given the limited range of its current non-Siri features, predicting the exact scope of Apple’s expansion is challenging.

Despite this, it appears that iOS 19 will serve as a year for catching up in AI rather than a leap forward. Apple still aims to deploy the new ‘LLM Siri’ backend in iOS 19.4, although the conversational assistant launch is on hold. Furthermore, Apple has postponed its iOS 18.4 Siri features to sometime ‘in the coming year’, which might extend to iOS 19.
