Revamped MacBook Pro Set to Debut Next Year with Three Major Enhancements

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has confirmed that a significant redesign of the MacBook Pro is set for release in 2026. We’ll explore three major speculations surrounding this upcoming model.

OLED Display

Following its introduction in the iPad Pro in 2024, Apple is expected to incorporate OLED display technology into the MacBook Pro lineup for the first time with this redesign in 2026. This transition will enhance brightness, improve contrast ratios, and enrich color accuracy.

Additionally, TheElec reports that Apple plans to utilize the same Tandem OLED display technology as seen in the iPad Pro:

The new MacBook Air is projected to feature a standard single-stack display, unlike the advanced Two-Stack Tandem displays expected for the MacBook Pro.

Single-stack displays consist of one red, green, and blue layer, while two-stack tandem OLEDs possess an additional RGB layer. Stacking two layers increases both screen brightness and longevity.

As Apple shifts to OLED, it may also eliminate the notch in favor of a smaller camera hole cutout. According to Omdia, this design could be described as a “rounded corner + hole cut.”

The details on whether it will be a single hole punch or something akin to the Dynamic Island on the iPhone remain unclear. Nevertheless, users can expect a less obtrusive cutout in the display of the new MacBook Pro.

Sleeker Design

Bloomberg reports that the 2026 MacBook Pro will feature a new, slimmer design. However, specific details regarding changes to the overall chassis remain limited:

Although Apple has continually upgraded the product with new chips and internal enhancements, a significant overhaul of the MacBook Pro will likely not take place until 2026. Initially, the company aimed to release this updated version in 2025, featuring a thinner design and sharper OLED displays, but delays concerning the display technology have occurred.

Advanced M6 Chip

The forthcoming MacBook Pro redesign will also introduce the M6 chip series. The M6 is expected to be the first generation of Apple Silicon utilizing TSMC’s 2nm technology, alongside the upcoming A20 chip for iPhone.

As traditionally seen, we can anticipate the release of M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max versions of the MacBook Pro, available in both 14-inch and 16-inch variants. With the adoption of a new process node, significant advancements in performance and efficiency are expected.
