Review: BenQ 32-Inch Ergo Arm Programming Monitor with MoonHalo Offers Advantages for All Users

If you’re not keen on 27-inch 5K displays, the BenQ 32-inch 4K monitor is an exciting alternative that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed testing. The BenQ RD320UA 32-inch Ergo Arm Programming Monitor with MoonHalo has been crafted to enhance comfort during extended coding or writing sessions.

How I Utilize the BenQ RD320UA

As a 4K monitor, the RD320UA offers exceptional sharpness even at a 1920×1080 resolution. However, I’ve preferred the scaled resolution of 2560×1440, which allows for comfortable viewing without straining my eyes. This setup is especially effective when placed alongside the 27-inch 5K monitor, maintaining seamless operation without peculiar resizing issues.

Regarding eye strain, the RD320UA is designed to alleviate discomfort in three distinct ways.

MoonHalo Feature

The MoonHalo light source acts as a customizable backlight situated behind the monitor, providing illumination that reduces eye strain caused by the brightness of the display.

This feature is particularly useful for late-night coding sessions, offering an advantage over working in either pitch darkness or harshly lit environments.

You can easily switch the MoonHalo on or off, with seven color temperature settings that cater to various lighting preferences, ranging from daylight to warmer shades, alongside adjustable brightness. Tailoring MoonHalo to different modes allows for a cool lighting effect in Light Mode, a cozy ambience in Dark Mode, and an option to turn it off completely in M-book mode.

Interestingly, when the display shuts down, so does the MoonHalo light. During my testing, I used the Apple Vision Pro with my Mac mini at night, which turned off my actual display as well as the MoonHalo. Disengaging the Apple Vision Pro awoke the display, and the MoonHalo promptly illuminated my workspace again. It was a truly enjoyable experience!

Ergo Arm Benefits

The Ergo Arm is a delight to use. The monitor hovers effortlessly above your desk, allowing you to raise or lower it with minimal effort. The two-piece arm permits precise positioning of the monitor, and switching between landscape and portrait orientations is a breeze.

Night Hours Protection Feature

The RD320UA includes a Night Hours Protection feature that automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness for optimal visibility during late hours. Per BenQ, it integrates “minimum brightness technology, low-light eye-care filters, and dark-room display optimization.”

With advanced low brightness technology that dives below conventional limits, Night Hours Protection allows users to determine their ideal brightness in the darkest environments, alleviating eye strain and helping to maintain the programmer’s focus during long night sessions.

Notably, switching between modes and display settings is straightforward via the built-in menu, eliminating the hassle of complicated configurations.

BenQ’s Nano Matte Panel enhances my experience with the RD320UA, making it suitable for use even in bright daylight while effectively minimizing glare in dimly lit spaces.

For further specifications on the monitor:

  • 2000:1 contrast ratio

Finally, I must mention that the RD320UA excels as a monitor for watching videos and movies, or for enjoying retro-style video games on YouTube like a seven-year-old.
