Rumor: iPhone 17 Pro Max Expected to Be Thicker for Increased Battery Capacity

The forthcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max is said to be thicker than its predecessor, as revealed in a recent report on Weibo. This is just one of several design modifications Apple is expected to implement in its iPhone lineup this fall.

This speculation originates from the leaker Ice Universe, known for accurately leaking details about unreleased Apple products. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is predicted to have a thickness of 8.725mm, an increase from the 8.25mm thickness of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. If true, this would mark Apple’s thickest iPhone since the iPhone 4S.

Ice Universe also suggests that the increased thickness is meant to accommodate a larger battery. However, the leaker provided no further details about the exact size of the new battery. It’s important to note that a larger battery doesn’t automatically translate to longer battery life, as Apple may need to boost battery capacity to support new, energy-demanding features.

On a positive note, for those in search of a slim iPhone, a new option will be available this year: the iPhone 17 Air. This model is anticipated to be Apple’s slimmest iPhone ever, measuring at an impressive 5.5mm thick. Although the iPhone 17 Air will feature certain compromises, such as a single rear camera, Apple aims to attract buyers by prioritizing design over functionality.
