This week, Jon Prosser unveiled a preliminary look at some significant design updates expected in iOS 19. He first shared what he referred to as a “screenshot” of the upcoming Messages app, followed by a separate video that delved into the anticipated system-wide changes.

For additional context, Mark Gurman pointed out that these images “aren’t indicative of what we’ll see at WWDC” and are likely “based on very outdated builds or vague descriptions, lacking critical features.”

My Thoughts

I genuinely believe certain elements that Prosser showcased will find their way into iOS 19. However, absent Gurman’s insights, I would still be astonished if these early examples represented the final version. This is partly due to the fact that new designs are continuously refined throughout development, and also because leaks like this often fail to capture the entirety of Apple’s plans.

Nonetheless, specific design elements, such as buttons with enhanced dimensionality, seem more likely to be included in Apple’s major upcoming update.

Apple Watch Cameras on the Horizon

Mark Gurman has indicated that Apple intends to integrate cameras into future iterations of the Apple Watch, although not in the immediate future.

The concept is that a camera integrated into the watch could offer AI functionalities using a device we already wear on our wrists. Thus, watchOS would likely gain some form of visual intelligence.

Additionally, Gurman has stated that camera-equipped AirPods are also in the pipeline.

My Thoughts

Incorporating cameras into the Apple Watch seems logical. While they might be more suited for AirPods based on positioning, the fact remains AirPods aren’t worn all day like the Apple Watch is.

Gurman mentions that the camera development is aimed at both the Apple Watch Ultra and the standard ‘Series’ models. Despite this, I anticipate the first Watch camera might debut with the Ultra model. The Apple Watch Ultra has more space for new components and its premium pricing could help offset the camera’s costs.

Leaker Majin Bu shared a comparison image this week on X, illustrating the thickness difference between the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro.

These dummy models, based on anticipated dimensions, provide a clear perspective on how the thinness of the 17 Air could stand out as a key selling point.

My Thoughts

This image reaffirms my belief that Apple is targeting two distinct markets with its 17 Air and Pro models.

  • The iPhone 17 Air appeals to those seeking a sleek, modern device.
  • The 17 Pro focuses on enhanced battery life and a robust camera setup.

If you’re someone who craves the ultimate iPhone experience, the 17 Pro will be your choice. However, if a lightweight and slim design is more appealing, then the 17 Air is tailored for you.
