At the Unpacked 2025 event, Samsung unveiled a variety of exciting announcements, with the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra taking center stage.
As the event concluded, Samsung surprised everyone with a teaser of the upcoming ultra-slim Galaxy S25 Edge. This announcement comes on the heels of Apple’s anticipated release of its ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air later this year.
Galaxy S25 Edge vs iPhone 17 Air
Our colleagues at 9to5Google attended the Unpacked 2025 event. The teaser for the Galaxy S25 Edge didn’t provide many specifics about the device. Details such as an exact release date remain unclear, but speculation suggests a potential launch as early as April or May. Samsung has also yet to disclose any specifications for this model; today’s teaser mainly highlighted the “Galaxy S25 Edge” name.
Earlier this month, a report indicated that the Galaxy S25 Edge may be approximately 6.4mm thick, while Apple’s iPhone 17 Air is rumored to be as thin as 5.5mm at its narrowest point.
According to a supply chain report, Samsung began development on the Galaxy S25 Edge shortly after the first rumors about the iPhone 17 Air emerged last May.
Leaked renders from SmartPrix earlier this month indicate that the Galaxy S25 Edge will sport three cameras on the back. In contrast, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to come equipped with a single 48MP camera in a horizontal “camera bar” layout.
In an interview with Bloomberg today, TM Roh, president of Samsung’s mobile devices division, explained the vision behind the Galaxy S25 Edge:
The Edge will incorporate some technologies found in the new Ultra model, but within a more compact design. Customers seek the “best performance, the best camera features, the best AI, all while desiring an even more appealing form factor that stands out,” Roh noted during the interview.
“We aim to merge all the benefits of the S25 Ultra into a sleeker design,” he added.
“Our intention is to set the pricing below that of the Ultra models, making it more accessible to a wider audience,” Roh stated.
