Selena Gomez has made a tweet saying that the events of 7th January 2021 happened due to the enabling of hate by people who use social media platforms for adverse effects. As a result, the hearts of people were filled with hate that led to the riots.

She has released a statement in order to motivate the leaders of the biggest and most popular social media companies to take some strict action.

On the night of 7th January 2021, Wednesday, Selena Gomez, the singer, had addressed Mark Zuckerberg along with Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook, Jack Dorsey of Twitter, Sundar Pichai of Google, and Susan Wojcicki of YouTube by tagging all of them. She had asked them to speak up during this dire situation of the riots which took place at Capitol Hill Building, Washington DC, on that very day itself.

Before she tagged them all on along with each of the platforms, she stated that the incident happened, owing to the allowing of people to use the social media platforms for the purpose of spreading hate. Whereas, thee platforms must be used to spread love and kindness.

Selena Gomez had further added that the leaders had absolutely failed the country and its people. She also hopes that they will step up to make some amends and take some measures to ensure that this will never happen again in the future.
