Today, Shazam, the music identification service acquired by Apple in 2018, reached an impressive milestone, announcing that its users have identified over 100 billion songs.
The song that tops the list is “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I, with more than 45 million identifications on Shazam.
Although the independent Shazam application is still available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, it has seen significant integration into Apple’s ecosystem, especially within its operating systems and services.
For example, users can now add a Song Recognition widget to their Control Center, allowing them to detect songs from apps or sounds picked up by the microphone. Additionally, iPhone 15 and newer models enable users to assign the Shazam Music Recognition feature to the Action button.
With watchOS 11, users’ Apple Watches will automatically include a Music Recognition shortcut in the Smart Stack when the watch detects loud music playing nearby.
Moreover, Apple Music is merging Shazam’s data into various playlists, including Radio Spins, which tracks the most frequently played songs on radio stations.
