The widely-used encrypted messaging app Signal revealed exciting new features on Monday. With this latest update, joining group calls via personalized links has become much simpler. Let’s explore what’s changed in Signal.
New Features Introduced for Group Calls on Signal
In a recent blog update, Signal announced an innovative method for users to enter group calls. Previously, it was necessary to create a group chat before initiating a call. Following the recent update, users can now easily generate a link to invite others to participate in the call.
To generate a link, open the Signal app and navigate to the links tab. Next, click the button to create a new link. Users have the option to assign a custom name to the link and can even set up an approval requirement for joining the call. Additionally, the ability to remove participants from ongoing calls and block them from rejoining is now available.
Another handy feature allows users to reuse the same link for subsequent calls, which can be particularly beneficial for recurring meetings. Signal supports group calls for up to 50 participants.
The update also introduces several other enhancements. A new “raise hand” button has been added during calls, allowing everyone to see who wishes to speak next. Users can now express themselves with emoji reactions during calls as well. Furthermore, call controls have been revamped for enhanced convenience when toggling the camera or microphone on and off.
These new features are currently being deployed to Signal users across desktop, iOS, and Android platforms. For iPhone and iPad users, the app is available for free on the App Store. Be sure to update to the latest version to enjoy the new capabilities.
