2025 promises to be significant for Apple’s hardware releases, including several products that have seen updates infrequently. Here’s a look at six new products set to debut after approximately three years (or longer) of waiting for upgrades.
iPhone SE 4
Last update: March 2022
Apple is gearing up for a substantial refresh of its next iPhone SE model, featuring impressive enhancements that could make it the most appealing iPhone for a broad range of consumers.
Exciting new features for the entry-level iPhone are set to include:
- A18 chip debuting with iPhone 16
- Support for Apple Intelligence
- OLED display technology
- Face ID and a notch design
- 8GB RAM
- 48MP primary camera
- USB-C charging capability
- First in-house 5G modem from Apple
The launch of the iPhone SE 4 is anticipated around March, marking one of Apple’s leading product introductions for the year.
AirTag 2
Last update: April 2021
The original AirTag took an extensive amount of time to arrive, following years of speculation and leaks, especially through 2019 and 2020. Now, four years later, AirTag 2 is finally on the horizon.
The new AirTag 2 is expected to introduce three key improvements:
- Enhanced range
- Upgraded wireless chip
- Stronger privacy features
According to Mark Gurman, Apple aims to unveil the AirTag 2 around the middle of the year.
HomePod mini 2
Last update: November 2020
Launched in 2020, the HomePod mini satisfied users looking for a budget-friendly smart speaker, especially since the original HomePod was often considered too costly.
Now, four years since its debut, the HomePod mini 2 is finally anticipated, likely by year’s end.
Details on prospective features remain limited, but expectations include support for Apple Intelligence and better compatibility with the upcoming ‘HomePad’ product.
AirPods Pro 3
Last update: September 2022
While it may seem that AirPods Pro receive frequent updates due to the addition of new software features, the hardware refreshes still occur roughly every three years—this will hold true with the expected release of AirPods Pro 3, arriving in September.
The updates for AirPods Pro 3 promise substantial changes, including:
- A redesigned physical form factor
- The inaugural H3 chip
- Possible integration of a heart rate sensor
- Enhanced noise cancellation and audio capabilities
Apple Watch SE 3
Last update: September 2022
Similar to the iPhone SE, a new iteration of the Apple Watch SE is also anticipated this year. While details remain scarce, the Apple Watch SE 3 is expected to incorporate newer features from recent models, including an upgraded chipset and potentially additional health sensors.
Traditionally, Apple unveiled new Apple Watch SE models alongside its flagship Watches in September, and this year might follow suit; however, a spring launch concurrent with the iPhone SE is also possible.
New Apple TV 4K
Last update: November 2022
The Apple TV has seen some of the most unpredictable update schedules among all Apple devices.
Reviewing the history, there have been inconsistent intervals between models: 3.5 years, 1.5 years, 1 year, 2.5 years, 2 years, 4 years, 1 year. Presently, we’re looking at over two years since the last release, which could stretch close to three years before a new version surfaces.
According to Mark Gurman, a new Apple TV 4K is expected later this year—around October or November. So far, it is known to feature Apple’s latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, along with anticipated performance enhancements for processing speeds, potentially enabling future Apple Intelligence functionalities in tvOS updates.
Apple’s rare product updates: wrap-up
Not every Apple device warrants an annual refresh. However, when infrequent updates occur, they tend to bring significant enhancements. While many details about these products remain uncertain, there’s hope that Apple has impressive revisions planned for these awaited models.
