Snapchat is introducing a new feature that mimics the functionality of Apple’s Find My app but is restricted to family members only.
Parents will be able to request the location of their teens, and vice-versa, with some automated location updates also available.
The Verge reports that this feature will be rolled out alongside other location-based tools in the coming weeks.
After updating, parents will find an option in the Family Center allowing them to request their teen’s location, and teens can do the same. This hub will also enable parents to review their child’s location-sharing preferences alongside existing privacy settings to ensure safe and responsible app usage.
As an added feature, Snap is enabling family members to receive automatic travel notifications, alerting them when someone arrives at or departs from predefined locations like home or school.
This initiative appears to be a public relations effort aimed at improving the company’s image after facing criticism regarding its influence on teen addiction to the app.
