The president of Mexico, Andrez Manual Lopez Obrador, made an announcement to fight against the social media ban, that is currently imposed on the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump. The vow to take any action against this, was taken by him on Thursday.
This issue, taken up by the Mexican President comes to the fact that almost all of the major social media companies have put a restriction on the account of President Trump for some time. That is owing to the President’s role in the Capitol violence that took place in the US.
‘Social Media Ban, A Restricted Freedom Of Expression’
President Andrez Manual Lopez Obrador, in his vow, mentioned that the social media ban on President Trump, by all the companies, is considered by him as censorship. He mentioned that he will be making efforts on the international level to do something about it. Currently, he is making contact with the government of various different countries to develop a common argument against the ban.
The Mexican president gave a clear statement concerning the matter. He claimed that the issue will be put forward by him at the first meeting of the G20 organization. The president continued his statement by saying that it is true that the social media platform is not something where people should incite violence. However, he defied the fact that this should be a reason to suspend somebody’s freedom of expression, which is a basic human right. He explained that the social media ban imposed on President Donald Trump was a restriction to his freedom of expression.
The Secretary of Foreign Relations of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard also added to the President’s statement, following the matter. He stated that Mexico has already started developing an international campaign against the social media ban.
