Payment schedule if you’ve had SSDI since May 1997 or earlier

If you began receiving SSDI before May 1997, you typically receive your payment on the third day of each month. However, there are exceptions if the third falls on a weekend or holiday. In 2025, this will occur in May and August, so expect to receive your payment 1-2 days earlier in these months.

For everyone else, payments are based on birth dates

If you started receiving SSDI after May 1997, your payment date is linked to your birth date. Payments are usually disbursed on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month, as follows:

Birthdate between Social Security check date
1 and 10 of the month Second Wednesday of the month
11 and 20 of the month Third Wednesday of the month
21 and 31 of the month Fourth Wednesday of the month

How will the 2025 COLA affect my payment?

The 2025 COLA brings a 2.5% rise in monthly benefit checks, though the actual increase may vary due to multiple factors. Your monthly income, the duration of your benefits, and the type of benefits you receive may influence the amount of the increase. Recipients were notified of their COLA adjustments in December with specific details pertaining to their cases. A 2.5% COLA increase will typically add around $48 to the average monthly benefit.
