When You Will Receive Your Social Security Check

Curious about the specific day you will get your check? Here is the Social Security and SSDI payment schedule for April.

Social Security Payment Schedule for April 2025

If you have received Social Security since before May 1997 April 3
If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of any given month April 9
If your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of any given month April 16
If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of any given month April 23

Understanding How Your Payment Date Is Determined

Social Security payments are generally issued starting on the second Wednesday of each month, with the subsequent payments following on the next two Wednesdays. Your assigned payment week is based on your birthdate, with one notable exception that we will discuss below.

Birthdate between Social Security Check Date
1st and the 10th 2nd Wednesday of the month
11th and the 20th 3rd Wednesday of the month
21st and 31st 4th Wednesday of the month

Other Government Benefits Do Not Follow the Same Schedule

If you have been receiving Social Security benefits since before May 1997, or if you receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income, your payment timeline is not dependent on your birthdate. Instead, payments are distributed every month on fixed dates with a few exceptions.

Social Security benefits are sent out on the 3rd of each month, while SSI payments are delivered on the 1st of the month. These dates may vary if they coincide with weekends or holidays. For instance, last year, March 3 fell on a weekend, so Social Security beneficiaries received their payments two days early, on March 1.

The only benefits following the same schedule are Social Security and Social Security Disability Insurance.

What to Do if Your Social Security Check Is Missing

If your check does not arrive as scheduled, the Social Security Administration recommends waiting for three additional mailing days before reaching out to them. After that, you can call their national toll-free number: 1-800-772-1213.

The SSA advises that “call wait times are typically shorter in the morning, later in the week, and later in the month.” If you’re experiencing difficulties connecting with the SSA through the national number, you can utilize their office locator to find a local office to contact.
