Since its introduction, Gemini on iOS has been incorporated within the Google (Search) app. However, that may change as one iPhone user has recently discovered a separate “Google Gemini” app available in the App Store, which also provides access to Gemini Live.
This dedicated app allows users to add a Gemini icon to their home screen, proclaiming: “Unlock the power of Google AI on your iPhone.” Previously, users needed to open the Google app and navigate to the “Gemini” tab at the top. Alternatively, a recent update to the Google app’s home screen widget introduced customizable shortcuts for direct access to Gemini with a single tap.
The “Google Gemini” app listing indicates the availability of Gemini Live, which has yet to be offered in the Google app. One user who downloaded the app showcased the voice experience in operation. Gemini utilizes a Live Activity feature to remain active while you use your phone for other tasks.

Currently, there is only a single report confirming that this app is available for a user in the Philippines. In the US, the App Store message reads, “This app is currently not available in your country or region.” It appears Google is testing the app in select locations before a broader rollout.
In terms of capabilities, Gemini on iPhone through the Google app is on par with gemini.google.com. However, the user interface of the app has not been updated to match its Android counterpart. Ideally, this standalone application will facilitate quicker updates from Google. It’s worth noting that Google Assistant operates as a separate app on Apple devices.
