Stellantis Refutes Claims of Outgoing Apple CFO Maestri Becoming Its Next CEO

It has been clarified that Apple’s departing CFO Luca Maestri will not be succeeding as the CEO of Stellantis – a rumor that circulated within the automotive sector.

What’s our initial thought? It’s always intriguing to discover the truth behind a rumor, especially one that gets quickly debunked. We saw this happen a couple of years ago when Bob Iger rejoined Disney and dismissed speculation about a merger with Apple.

The rumor appears to have originated from an Italian newspaper report suggesting that Apple’s retiring CFO might be chosen to head Stellantis. This led to an official denial from a spokesperson for the automaker, stating “this is not true.”

According to Reuters, a source privy to the situation labeled the report as “fake news,” and another provided additional context:

A second insider informed Reuters that while a CEO from the tech industry could potentially be considered for Stellantis, Maestri’s current role at Apple aligns him more with finance than technology.

Indeed, it’s a classic argument that Maestri is a finance executive rather than a tech leader. The logic seems sound.

Maestri’s retirement from Apple was disclosed in August, although the transition for the CFO role is scheduled for the upcoming year. Kevan Parekh, who has served as Maestri’s deputy, will step in for the 61-year-old who has held the position for a decade.
