Stimulus Check 2022: 16 States Sending EIPs

With politicians on both sides of the aisle blaming high gas and food costs for their actions, almost a dozen states are considering sending tax refund stimulus checks to their citizens to counteract the greatest inflation in four decades.

One of them is Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, who signed a measure on Wednesday authorizing the distribution of stimulus checks up to $500 to citizens of the state. In addition to returning some of the money amid a record state budget surplus, he stated in a statement that the goal was to lessen the impact of inflation on household budgets.

Two years ago, it was predicted that the epidemic would wipe out state budgets, but now that the economy is recovering, several governments are seeing a rise in tax income. One of the most generous proposals on the table comes from Democratic Governor Janet Mills of Maine, who wants to send stimulus checks for $850 to each person to help offset inflation, especially rising gas prices. By putting money back into their pockets, the refund “will assist Maine residents to deal with these increasing expenditures,” according to Mills.

Several States Are Sending Stimulus Checks

However, since states typically propose rebate stimulus checks of several hundred dollars while the typical family will charge an approximate $2,000 in extra costs this year due to the higher gas prices alone, the rebate checks are unlikely to cover the increased costs that the majority of Americans are facing.

Wendell Cressey asserted that the stimulus check will only offer short-term respite due to the rising cost of fuel for those employed by his company.

“It could assist a bit, but we have to pay for petrol, so it would have to be much more. The majority of us drive V-8 trucks, added Cressey. I simply do not believe it will be as helpful as they claim.

The tax relief plans put forth by certain states are not going as planned. The Democratic-controlled Legislature has shown little interest in the Republican governor of Vermont, Phil Scott’s proposal to provide a stimulus check for between $250 and $275 to the state’s property taxpayers as part of a $90 million Education Fund surplus.

When Scott first suggested the idea earlier this month, he added, “Usually, when you overpay for something, you get part of that money back.”

The States Having Rebate Checks Are Listed Below

Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Wednesday that he plans to provide households cash compensation of $400 for each car, up to a maximum of two. The stimulus checks might arrive as early as July, pending approval from California lawmakers, according to the statement. California has some of the most expensive gas prices in the country, with the state average on Wednesday being $5.87 a gallon, according to AAA.

Gov. Kemp signed a law on Wednesday that would give refunds to state taxpayers who have submitted returns for both 2020 and 2021. The state will send single taxpayers $250, heads of household $375, and married couples filing jointly $500.

Democratic governor David Ige suggested in January to send $100 to every taxpayer and their dependents, or $400 for a household of four.

A measure with $350 million in tax rebates was signed by the Republican governor Brad Little in February. The reimbursements would be paid to 12% of a person’s 2020 Idaho tax return, or $75 for each individual and dependent, whichever is larger.

That implies that a family of four might get at least $300.

Due to more significant than anticipated tax collections, Indiana residents will get $125 apiece after filing their taxes in 2022, according to the IndyStar.

As part of the state budget proposal, Governor Mills intends to distribute $850 to the majority of citizens.

Her office released a statement stating that owing to inflation, the typical Maine citizen will pay $560 more this year than they did last.

When the governor and lawmakers were up for election last year, the Democratic-led Legislature and Gov. Phil Murphy provided cash stimulus checks of up to $500 to approximately 1 million people as part of the budget agreement.

Earlier last month, Democratic governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a bill granting $250 rebate payments to single people and $500 stimulus checks to married couples. The federal government distributed stimulus funds during the epidemic, but these benefits had income restrictions as well. Couples earning up to $150,000 and single filers earning up to $75,000 are also eligible for the stimulus checks.

Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul recommends a $1 billion program for property tax rebates to provide tax relief for New Yorkers. According to Bloomberg News, the average property tax refund benefits for households outside of New York City would be $970.

According to local news site Wavy.com, Virginia lawmakers are anticipated to enact tax relief in the form of a rebate stimulus check, but the exact amount is not yet known. Various suggestions, according to the article, would either provide $250 or $300 to each person and $500 or $600 to married couples. A total of 41 states or cities will benefit from this perk, with several of these checks potentially reaching $18,000.

Individuals who the government is safeguarding through these stimulus checks receive periodic payments. The amount of compensation varies per state. It may be made monthly, multiple times a year, or once a year. Entrepreneur Andrew Yang built his 2020 presidential campaign around the idea that providing citizens with the lowest incomes with a half million dollars was the best course of action. The annual payments would be close to $2,000.

Despite losing the election, his vision persisted as a cornerstone of American culture throughout the epidemic, especially after Donald Trump departed the White House.  Either the government or the private sector would provide this revenue. Many Americans with modest incomes have spent the majority of the previous two years in such a situation. Alexandria, Alaska, Atlanta, Arizona, Cambridge, Birmingham, Chicago, Chelsea, Columbia, Cook County, Compton, Gainsville, Durham, Healdsburg, Georgia, Hudson, Long Beach, Jackson, Los Angeles, Lynn, Louisville, and Marin County are among the cities or states receiving UBI payments.

Mountain View, Minneapolis, Newark, New York City, New Orleans, New York State, Paterson, Oakland, Philadelphia, Richmond, Providence, Rochester, Shreveport, Santa Fe, South San Francisco, Washington DC, Tacoma, and West Hollywood are more locations receiving UBI payments.
