More than 200,000 households in Oregon are set to receive one-time stimulus check payments of $600 from the state as early as the first week of July.
The Oregon Department of Revenue on Wednesday announced that it would begin sending out payments worth $600 to over 236,000 households through check or direct deposit this week. The money is expected to arrive in eligible households by July 1.
To qualify for the stimulus check payments, a member of a household must have received the Oregon Earned Income Tax Credit on their 2020 tax filing. In addition, the household should have lived in Oregon for at least the latter half of 2020, according to Oregon Live.
The $600 payments will not be subject to state or federal income tax.
The Oregon Stimulus Check Comes After Other Ones
Oregon’s round of stimulus checks comes as other states across the nation also attempt to alleviate financial pressures on American families by introducing more relief payments.
In Colorado, individual taxpayers are expected to receive at least $500 in relief checks by September while couples filing jointly can get up to $1,000. The checks are part of legislation signed by Gov. Jared Polis last week to help Colorado families afford basic necessities amid rising prices and inflation.
Delaware, the home of President Joe Biden, also sent out $300 checks to help residents cope with inflation. The first round of checks went out at the end of May to people who filed their 2020 income tax returns. The state government will also send out checks to at least 175,000 residents who have not filed their taxes, including low-income senior citizens, Social Security recipients, and incarcerated people.
In Minnesota, more than 660,000 frontline workers are set to receive $750 payments for remaining on the job amid the COVID-19 pandemic. People who have worked 120 hours or more between March 15, 2020, and June 30, 2021, but have not received unemployment benefits for more than five months will be eligible to receive the checks.
Employees who worked with COVID-19 patients can also get a check if they made $175,000 a year or less. However, individuals who made more than $85,000 a year but did not work directly with COVID-19 patients will not receive the payments.
