Although there have been an exorbitant amount of stimulus check payments made to bank accounts since March, there is a lot more to come. The IRS has stated that it hasn’t yet completely done away with issuing the funds. Just the last week saw the agency put forward another 2.3 million payments. Records up to the 9th of June state that almost 169 million payments have been made, with the total sum coming to $395 billion.
Some People Are Still Waiting On The Stimulus Check
While a claim can be made that a lot of individuals have already received their $1,400 stimulus payments, there is still a big section of the demographic that hasn’t yet received their payment. The one reason for such is that the IRS could easily issue the stimulus check to those people who had filed their tax returns for 2019 and 2020. This information was used by the agency in order to determine the eligibility of their stimulus.
The problem crops up when there is a certain demographic that isn’t contractually obligated to file their tax returns. Several low-income earners have often been considered as an exemption from this step. Unfortunately, the IRS can’t really assist them more until there is a tax return on the file.
Moreover, there have been certain individuals who were considered ineligible for the stimulus check payments based on the tax returns of 2019- but then considered eligible under the 2020 returns. The agency did have to wait for those individuals to put in their taxes before it could start issuing them money.
Now, due to the deadline for tax returns set on the 17th of May, there were more than a few non-filers who took advantage of that extra time in order to put in their tax returns at the last moment. This has inordinately led to the IRS playing catch up with the stimulus check.
