The IRS is sending out stimulus checks now, but some people still have not received theirs and will have to wait longer. If you filed taxes in 2018 or 2019 and haven’t received your check yet, here are a few things to keep in mind.
If you filed taxes in 2018 or 2019, your stimulus check is on its way. The IRS is sending out these payments automatically with no action required from the taxpayer.
The Treasury Department has estimated that approximately 57 million households will receive a direct payment of $600 to $1,600 each year for six years.
You can go to irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center to check the status of your direct payment, but we recommend that you visit the IRS’s website instead. The tracking tool is confusing and doesn’t always work as intended.

You can also call the IRS at 866-255-0654 (TAXPAYER HELP LINE) or 8009394530 if you need assistance or have questions about your direct payment.
If you haven’t received your stimulus money, the next step is to contact the IRS. If you’ve already contacted them, then it might be time to call your bank as well.
If your money was direct deposited but not in your account by now, talk with customer service at your bank and file a claim for the missing funds. You should also file a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) if you suspect that someone else has taken possession of or used your information improperly.
If you mailed in an application for a stimulus payment and have not received confirmation of payment yet, check with USPS first before calling anyone else.
If you’re not already registered, you will need to do so before October 15th. If you don’t have a bank account on file with the IRS, you will be sent a paper check which can take longer to arrive.
