The IRS is working hard to get your stimulus check to you, but if you’ve missed out on yours, there are a few things you can do. You should first contact the IRS and speak with a representative so they can help figure out what happened.

If there was an error in the processing of your application or if they don’t have the right mailing address on file (which happens more often than you think), then there’s nothing stopping them from sending another check straight to your door ASAP.

If you haven’t received your stimulus check for a number of reasons, here’s how to get it.

Contact the IRS. If you’re not sure why you didn’t receive your stimulus check, contact the IRS and ask them to investigate the issue. They may be able to recover some or all of your money if they can determine that it was lost in transit or otherwise mishandled by their agents.

Look for the stimulus check in your account. If you have an online bank account, check whether or not your financial institution has posted any payments from the federal government (this could include cash assistance from TANF programs).

Check whether or not you were eligible for a stimulus check at all — and then make sure that you filled out all paperwork correctly with regard to tax filings if so; this includes submitting W-4 forms with employers who withheld taxes during employment (as many did), as well as filing taxes at least once every three years even if no tax liability exists due to low income levels ($6k/year single filers)

The IRS may not have received your stimulus check. It could have arrived at the wrong address or been misdirected to a different agency, like the Department of Education. If you filed your taxes with TurboTax or another tax preparation software, be sure to double-check that they sent in all necessary forms and paperwork on time.

If you’re still unable to locate your stimulus check after reaching out to the IRS, contact them again and ask them what happened with it and what steps you should take next.

If you think you may have missed out on your stimulus check, don’t panic! You can contact the IRS and fill out a form to locate it. It’s important that you do so as soon as possible because there is only a limited time frame in which they will process your request. If they don’t receive all of the necessary information from you within this time frame, then there’s nothing else they can do about it (and unfortunately no second chances).
