Apple TV+ is currently showcasing one of its most acclaimed comedies to date: Seth Rogen’s The Studio. However, the comedy that continues to hold a special place in our hearts—Ted Lasso—is gearing up for a new season. Here’s what we know so far about Ted Lasso season 4.
Season 4 is officially confirmed
Speculation regarding the fourth season of Ted Lasso has circulated since the airing of season 3.
In recent months, numerous hints have suggested that the show would return for a season 4. There have been teasers from executives, comments from the cast, and insights from co-creator Bill Lawrence, coupled with contract renewals for the cast and scheduled production.
On March 14, 2025, Apple made the confirmation official.
According to Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+:
“Ted Lasso has been an absolute powerhouse, fostering a dedicated fanbase globally and bringing endless joy and laughter, alongside messages of kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith. Everyone at Apple is excited to continue this collaboration with Jason and the extraordinarily talented team behind the show.”
Cast and creative team for the upcoming season
Early reports indicate that nearly all members of the Ted Lasso cast are expected to reprise their roles for season 4. This is fantastic news, as the ensemble cast is one of the show’s greatest assets.
Several actors have had their contract options renewed, while negotiations are still underway with others.
A potential absence in the new season could be Phil Dunster, better known as Jamie Tartt. Dunster is believed to be facing scheduling conflicts, although guest appearances are still a possibility.
In addition to the returning cast, there is noteworthy news regarding the creative team for the new season of Ted Lasso.
According to Apple’s announcement, Jack Burditt (known for Nobody Wants This, Modern Family, 30 Rock) has joined as an executive producer. He will reportedly assist Sudeikis in leading the writers’ room, which is promising given Burditt’s impressive credentials.
Jason Sudeikis returns, but in a possibly reduced capacity
Jason Sudeikis, the iconic face behind the mustache, might not feature as prominently in the upcoming season of Ted Lasso.
On his podcast The Town, Matt Belloni mentioned that sources indicate Sudeikis will not be present for the entirety of the new season.
“Many returning cast members will be back, but Sudeikis’s role will be minimized.”
Regardless of the accuracy of this claim, it’s likely we will still witness Ted quite a bit in season 4, albeit perhaps less frequently than before.
This wouldn’t be entirely surprising, as Lasso had already taken a slight step back in season 3 to allow the strong ensemble cast to shine. Season 4 might adopt a similar strategy.
Season 4 will introduce AFC Richmond’s inaugural women’s team
According to initial reports from Sigmund Judge, a significant storyline in the new season will revolve around the establishment of AFC Richmond’s women’s team.
Jason Sudeikis confirmed this during a recent podcast discussion:
“We are actively writing season four; that’s the official update. Ted will be coaching a women’s team.”
While it’s probable that the men’s team will still play a substantial role in the series, Richmond is aiming to diversify its teams by introducing a women’s team for the first time.
When to anticipate season 4 on Apple TV+
Initially, production for Ted Lasso season 4 was anticipated to start early this year. That didn’t happen, and current reports suggest that filming will begin in the spring.
Nevertheless, many uncertainties surround this schedule, complicating the prediction of a tentative premiere date on Apple TV+.
It seems unlikely that new episodes will debut in 2025; however, if they manage to release this year, season 4 might at least land in 2026.
Apple TV+ offers a subscription at $9.99 per month, featuring popular shows and movies, including Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Silo, and Shrinking.
